And before you all start jumping to conclusions, no I am not pregnant. I have applied to go back to uni to study midwifery and have my interview coming up. So thought I would do some reading on the topic so I have something to talk about at the interview :)

Bought a lot more than I intended to this past month, although it was my birthday and I decided to spend some of my birthday money on books. I did go a little out of my comfort zone this time, buying some popular/recent adult books instead of YA. Really want to try some new genres this year.
I don't think I will be doing a big haul like this again for a while, as currently I have 420 un-read books on my shelves! So I will be trying to make a dent in those ones after I've finished the library books!

I know I totally abandoned this blog in 2013 but one of my New Year resolutions for 2014 is to read more and blog about it, yay!

I have been completely out of the book scene for almost a full year now, while I have still been reading I haven't been blogging about book, taking to other people online and offline about books, neither have I been keeping up with new book releases...I am a terrible person, I know!

So why not start the new year by showing you some of the books I got for Christmas and picked up in the sales/with Christmas money.

Nothing really too exciting there, I did get the special shiny editions of The Hunger Games and I love them! I'm almost finished Allegiant, after saying I probably wouldn't read it after seeing all the spoilers I am completely hooked with it! A few manga bind-ups from my boyfriend, I have read Death Note before but the black editions look really pretty!

So hopefully you will be hearing more from me this year!
It was two months after Mum left that the gypsies moved in. They set up camp in the

paddock one Sunday night while we were asleep. My brother Sam was excited when

he saw them.

“Gypos!” he shouted.

Sam used to have a gypsy in his class: Grace Fitzpatrick. She’d been famous

at school because she could do as many things with her feet as with her hands. She

could even write her name with them, which was funny because she couldn’t read.

Sam, who’d sat next to her in assembly, said she smelt like cat piss and fire smoke.

“They live off barbecues,” he told me as we watched from Dad’s bedroom

window.

I thought it sounded brilliant.

There was a caravan, and a clapped-out car, and a few metres away, a fire with

a pot hanging over it.

“Be bloody hundreds of ’em by the end of the day,” Dad said, emptying

sawdust from his overall pockets onto the floor.

“They’ll probably tarmac the field while we’re asleep,” Sam said. “Try and

make you pay for it.”

Dad made a growling noise. “Be a nightmare getting rid of them, that’s for

bloody sure.”

He left us leaning on the windowsill.

Sam made dents in the wood with his fingers while I wondered what Dad was

going to do. This was exactly the sort of thing Mum would have sorted. She’d have

been best friends with the gypsies by breakfast, had them falling over themselves to

make her happy, even if that left them without a home.

“Look at all those dogs,” Sam said. “Bet they fight them. Tie blades to their

paws.”

I shook my head.

“Seen it on the telly,” he said.

“What, on kids’ telly?”

He dug his elbow into me until I squirmed.

Two greyhounds bounded round the paddock, and I tried to imagine them

snarling at each other, blades flying, but it was ridiculous, and then the caravan door

swung open, and a tiny black dog scurried out.

A woman appeared in the doorway. Tall and thin, with red hair falling over

one shoulder, she looked beautiful. She lifted her arms above her head and stretched,

revealing a stripe of tanned belly beneath her green vest. Behind her the white

caravan seemed to sparkle.

“Prossie,” Sam said.

The woman spun around suddenly, and a teenage boy in rolled-up jeans leapt

from the caravan, laughing. He’d obviously startled her. The three dogs ran over to

him, the tiny black one lagging behind, and he bent down to tussle with them. They

licked at his bare chest.

Sam didn’t have anything to say for a second. The boy looked about the same

age as him. He was obviously the woman’s son, tall and thin like her, but with

lighter, ginger-blond hair that flicked out above his ears and curled on the back of

his neck.

“Bet he don’t go to school,” Sam said.

“Come on, you two,” Dad called up the stairs. “You’re going to be late.”

“Shit!” Sam said, because he still hadn’t found his football boots.

Still, we couldn’t help staying a minute longer, watching as the red-haired

woman filled a bucket with water from the pot above the fire and began scrubbing

her steps.

Dad left the house at the same time as we did. With fists clenched, he headed

towards the paddock.

I couldn’t wait till the summer holidays. Everyone at school was getting on my

nerves. Especially Matty. At registration, when I told her about the gypsies, she told

me this story about her second cousin’s boyfriend’s brother: he was on his way to

the newsagent’s to buy a magazine when a gypsy girl burst out and cracked him over

the head with a golf ball in a sock. For no reason. I told her we didn’t have any girls,

only a boy, and described the way his hair flicked out, but she curled her nostrils at

me.

“Pikeys are gross, Iris,” she said. “You’d get gonorrhoea.”

Matty was always name-checking STDs. She thought it made her look

sophisticated.

At dinner time, we watched the boys play football.

“Your socks are odd,” Matty told me. “Don’t you care?”

“Not really.”

“Maybe you should.”

I took my shoes off, and folded my socks down so their oddness was less

obvious.

“That’s your problem, Iris,” she sighed. “You think that makes a difference.”

Before Maths, next lesson, I nipped into the toilets and took them off.

Matty had moved to Derby from Guildford four years ago with frizzy black hair and

too-big glasses which left red dents on her nose, but every new term she got prettier.

Today her black frizz was tamed into long waves that she twisted round her little

finger. Her glasses had shrivelled to contacts, and to make matters worse, her boobs

had gone from a size nothing to a 32B in the last six months. As far as Matty was

concerned, she was a fully mature woman.

“Remember, Iris,” she’d taken to saying to me, “my birthday’s in September.

Really, I’m in the year above you. Really, I’m a Year Ten.”

Every day, after school, I watched the gypsies. They hadn’t listened when Dad told

them they weren’t welcome, and much to his annoyance were getting on with their

lives. As well as the teenage boy, the dogs and the red-haired woman, there was a

man, a baby, and four little girls.

The boy spent a lot of time with his mum. He got in her way while she was

cleaning, and made her laugh. Sometimes she grabbed him and ruffled his hair. They

reminded me of how Mum and Sam used to be.

The gypsy boy was good to his sisters. They were all loads younger than him,

but he still played hide and seek with them, and picked them up when they cried. I

couldn’t imagine him getting mad at them for something as silly as borrowing his

socks.

In the evenings, they all sat around the fire, or on the grass nearby, until it was

time to eat whatever their mum cooked in the pot, or their dad brought home in the

car. Later on, when the mum had put the little ones to bed, the gypsy boy went to lie

underneath the caravan by himself, and I felt as though I understood him completely.

Dad shouted if he caught me watching from his bedroom window.

“It’s not a game, Iris,” he said, and so I kept my spying to when he was out.

One night, I left my curtains open so the sun could wake me. I wanted to see what

the gypsies did first thing. It was well before six when I crept upstairs, past Dad

sleeping with his head half-under the pillow, to my usual perch on his armchair by

the window. He didn’t notice. Mum was the light sleeper, the snorer too. She used to

make herself jump in the night.

Underneath the early white sky, the paddock was dotted with poppies, and fat

wood pigeons in the tall poplars surrounding the yard called to each other. The boy

got up first. He jumped down the caravan steps and did a lap of the field with the

dogs. Occasionally, he stooped to pick up sticks, or tugged dead branches from the

hedgerows.

By the entrance to the paddock was a huge pile of logs that Dad and Austin,

his apprentice, had cut down over the months – a year’s supply at least. Reaching it,

the boy stopped. He glanced towards our house, and I ducked behind Mum’s rose

pincushion cactus. I peered round its spiky dome, which was flowering purple, and

watched as he added a couple of long, slim branches to his pile.

Back at the camp, he knelt to build a fire. By the time the door to the caravan

opened next, he was fanning the flames with a sheet of cardboard. His mum emerged

carrying a stack of bowls, the baby wrapped to her back, and the boy changed

position to direct the smoke away from them.

“Eye?” Dad lifted his head. “That you?”

Dad called me Eye, as in ball. Mum used to tell him off for it, back when they

still talked to each other. “She’s named after the flower,” she’d say, but she didn’t

mind really. It was just something they did.

“What you doing?”

“Need some socks,” I said, pretending to rummage in the unsorted pile I’d

been sitting on.

The plastic of Dad’s alarm clock creaked as he looked at it. “S’not even

seven,” he groaned. “Go back to bed.”

I watched the boy put on a rucksack, pat the baby’s head, and walk to the

far end of the field where the paddock dropped into the brook. He reappeared on

the other side of the water, and then disappeared into the Ashbourne Estate, and I

wondered where he could be going.

It was the last day of school, and the Year Elevens ran around scrawling over each

other’s shirts and planning who to egg and flour. Only the most popular kids didn’t

have at least one willy drawn on their back. I wondered how Sam would have done

if he hadn’t been suspended. I saw his best friend, Benjy, a couple of times. His lip

was still split from where Sam had punched him.

I was sad to be leaving science for the summer. Biology was the best, not only

because I got a break from Matty. I was in the top set, and she was in the bottom,

and I paid extra special attention when Mrs Beever talked about the parenting traits

of various birds. Apparently both male and female swans help build the nest, and

if the mother dies (or drives off in a van to Tunisia) there’s no need to spaz out and

call the RSPB. The male swan is completely capable of raising his cygnets alone. I

almost wished Matty was sitting next to me when I heard that.

All afternoon we bickered, but choosing sweets in the shop after school she

still invited me to sleep over at hers that night. “We can do a fashion show with my

new clothes,” she said. “Mum’s making spag bol.”

“Doubt my dad’ll let me,” I lied, putting ten fizzy cola bottles in a paper bag.

“He still being weird?” she said, and I nodded, but the truth was I couldn’t

bear it round hers any more.

Her mum, Donna, asked questions with her best talk-to-me expression: are you

okay? and is your dad okay? and is everything OKAY at Silverweed Farm? The worst

thing was that Matty didn’t stop her. She just stood there expectantly, as if the two of

them had become some kind of talk show mother/daughter duo, and I their favourite

guest. Matty and Mom!

I hope you loved it!
Make sure to stop by the other blogs taking part in the tour!

No where near as many books to show this week, thank goodness!

I have started my Project 10 Book now, but I did manage to get some sneaky purchases in before it started!

If anyone is interested in finding out more about Project 10 Book and wants to join in on the fun, I've made a Goodreads Group, come and join us!

Most of these were either free or ridiculously cheap on Amazon UK for Kindle.

Well it's almost a new year and this time I am planning on sticking to Project 10 Book.

For those who don't know what Project 10 Book is the rules are simple, you need to read 10 books from your bookshelf before you can buy another one.

You can change it to whatever suits you best, make it 5 books instead of 10. Or perhaps make it all E-Books instead of paperbacks. It's totally up to you!

Project 10 Book starts on Jan 1st and this time I'm going to make it simple for myself,

all paperback, hardbacks and e-books count. The only books I'm not going to count are review books.

If you want to join in then sign up below!

Hope you all have a great 2013!!

In Remembrance, Lizzie and Drew changed the course of fate so they could be together.

In Vengeance, Chelsea set fate back on its original, deadly path.

Now, strange things keep happening to Lizzie. Things that are omens of darkness to come. A
curse has doomed her to die an early death, just as she did in her past life. To make matters
worse, even if she can figure out who cast the curse, it's irreversible. There's only one option
left for her to save herself. It's crazier than anything she's heard yet, and to do it, she'll need
Drew and Chelsea's help.

Because to make things right, they must go back to when it all began … and Lizzie discovers that
the final events in her past life were more sinister than she ever imagined.

Timeless is the final part of the Transcend Time Saga.

The Transcend Time Saga is a Clean Romance suitable for anyone age 12 and up!
Chelsea’s Top 10 Makeup Products

Hi, everyone! If you’ve read the books in the Transcend Time Series, then you know that
Chelsea loves getting dressed up and doing her makeup whenever she can. She doesn’t even go
to school without putting on makeup in the morning! Here is a list of her top ten products that
she can’t live without:

1) Dior Night Butterfly Eyeshadow Palette

This is Chelsea’s favorite palette, because she loves wearing smokey purple shadows—the
colors go great with her green eyes.

2) RMS Beauty Cream Eyeshadow in Magnetic

This purple cream eyeshadow is the perfect base for purple smokey eyes.

3) MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack

This is Chelsea’s favorite eyeliner. It’s gel, which is easy to apply. It’s also deep black, so it gives
a dramatic look. For night time, you can wing it out for extra flair!

4) MAC Bronzer in Refined Golden

Chelsea loves looking tan all year round. Put this bronzer on the cheeks, chin, nose, and
forehead for an all over glow. Remember to put some on your neck, too, so there’s not a line
where the bronzer ends!

5) YSL Faux Cils Mascara

This mascara is thick without being clumpy, and makes the lashes look incredible. It gives a
great false lash effect. Chelsea uses this mascara every day.

6) The Balm Stainiac in Beauty Queen

Chelsea uses this lip stain to make sure her lips stay red all day. This stays in place for hours, so
even if lip gloss comes off, the lips will still be red.

7) MAC Eyeliner Pencil in Engraved

Chelsea uses this pencil to line her lower waterline, since it can get messy to use gel in the
waterline.

8) YSL Anti-Cernes Multi-Action Concealer

Chelsea uses this concealer under her eyes to cover circles and on any red spots on her face.
She takes school seriously, and stays up late on weeknights doing her homework, so this
concealer is necessary to make her look awake in the morning!

9) Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush in Charisma

This beautiful color blush stays on all day!

10) MAC Lipglass in Russian Red

In Timeless, Lizzie mentions Chelsea’s “red lip gloss that makes her look like a vixen.” This is
what Chelsea was wearing!

Thank you, Emma, for having me on BelleBooks for the Timeless blog tour!
Michelle Madow was inspired to write Remembrance after seeing Taylor Swift's "Love Story"
music video while a junior at Rollins College in Winter Park, FL. The song and video gave her the
story idea about a high school girl reincarnated from Regency Era, England. She handed in the
first chapter as a homework assignment for class, and when her teacher and classmates wanted
her to continue writing, she decided to go for it. By the end of the school year, her first novel
was completed!

Michelle graduated from the Park School of Baltimore in 2005, where she always took two
English classes each semester. She graduated from Rollins College in 2010, cum laude with a
Bachelor of Arts in English. At Rollins she was a member of the National Society of Collegiate
Scholars, and a member of the International English Honor Society Sigma Tau Delta.

She received the Charles Hyde Pratt Award for Excellence in Creative Writing in 2010.

Michelle lives in Florida, where she is hard at work writing more novels for young adults.

So as many of you will already know, I am a huge Courtney Cole fan. I've read all of her books and loved them! Of Blood and Bone is no different for me.

Even though this is an adult book and Courtney's previous books have been more YA. I honest to god loved this one, I think I enjoyed it more that the entire Bloodstone Saga...and thats saying something! That series is one of my top 5 all time favourites!

Anyway enough of the fan girl gushing, Of Blood and Bone follows 29 year old Psychology student Eva as she spends the summer in Malta to finish her dissertation. Her study involves meeting lots of new people and then after follow up meetings deciding if her first impressions were right.

While in Malta there is what seems to be a rash of murdered girls, which locals are putting down to a wolf pack although Eva doesn't seem convinced and doesn't really feel safe where she is. After a few chance encounters with a very wealthy and reclusive local Luca, Eva takes him up on his offer to move into his estate to make her feel safer, but it seems that there is more to Luca than meets the eye.

I'm really trying not to write any major plot spoilers in this one, but it's hard to bare with me! As always with Courtney's books I was hooked from page one and read Of Blood and Bone in just one sitting. The worlds Courtney writes about and the imagery she uses is so life-like, it's impossible not to get wrapped up in this new world, for a few hours anyway!

I have read a few reviews on this book before writing mine and a lot of people seemed to have mixed feelings about Eva. I actually really liked her as a main character, yes she was a bit hysterical here and there, but put yourself in her shoes. I think I would be exactly the same if I was going through the same situation.

Gosh then there is Luca, super hot, super rich and superly unavailable! Just how I like my book boyfriends, haha! Seriously though, he comes across as almost the perfect man, apart from that one thing that I'm trying really hard not to talk about and spoil this review!

I loved the setting of Malta for this book. It's somewhere I've never been to and would really like to some day. I liked Courtney's descriptions of the laid back, easy lifestyle the locals live. It reminded me so much of Spanish life. I love Spain, the language, the food, the people. So it was easy for me to visualise a sleepy little town in Malta where this story unfolds.

I loved the chemistry between Luca and Eva in the book, especially at the start when they just met. Lucas kills a spider for Eva, and I thought gosh that is completely me with spiders! The two of them have a tension between them at the start and it's as if both of them aren't really too sure what is going to happen next, or even if anything should happen next between them.

Overall, I am very impressed with Of Blood and Bone. I'm don't read many adult books, mostly YA but this one is a must read on my list!

Welcome to Never Land, the land of Never and the world of rock, the world of new experiences and sensations, a world where music runs through the veins of the dedicated, and love is taken and given with consequences. Never (Neve) Knight, the lead singer and manager of a band filled with the hottest guys in rock finally gets the dream that she wanted: a label signing her band The Never Knights. It is what she always wanted, a band of her own and playing her own kind of music. Getting her band to where it was came at a high price, including giving up the man who makes her heart race and her blood pound, the man who caused her to nearly lose her band. As she gets ready to go on her world tour, fate brings her close to Danny Blue again, and she's not sure if she can give him up a second time even if it means losing the band.

So today I have something special to share, I am taking part in the Jennifer L Armentrout Summer Blog Tour, hosted by Kayleigh at K-Books.

I firstly want to say a massive thank you to Kayleigh for organising this tour, she is one of my best blogging friends online and I know how much Jennifer's books mean to her, it's safe to say she's a little crazy when it comes to talking about them!

I do have all of Jennifer's books that have been published so far, but I just hadn't ever gotten round to reading them yet, this year I've discovered that working full time sucks! I've fell way behind with both blogging and reading, I feel totally out of touch with the blogging world :(

Anyway this tour gave me a chance to bite the bullet and get stuck into starting my Jennifer pile, and I'm so glad that I did! I finished Obsidian last night and am halfway through Onyx right now. I'm also super excited to start the Half-Blood series later this week!

So today for my tour stop I'm going to share my review for Obsidian!

Obsidian was a book that I went into knowing that I would love. I'm a bit late on jumping on the bandwagon with this series, but better late than never I say!

I'm not going to summarise the plot on this one, as I am sure most of you have probably already read it, or know what it's about. So I'm just going to jump straight into my review!

So I gave Obsidian 5 stars, and it deserved each and everyone of those stars.

It is beautifully written, the paragraphs and chapters flow into each other and before you know it your on the last page!

The characters are pure genius, Katy reminds me of myself and so many of my blogger friends, there was parts in the book that she made me laugh so hard my tummy hurt! I was sitting thinking gosh this is me with my blog and how I feel when new review books show up at my door!

Dee is hilarious, she is so fun loving and energetic you can't help but fall for her charm in Obsidian, and of course there is Daemon.

Like I said I went into this book fully prepared to fall for him, and it still hit me like a tonne of bricks!

Oh man if I was a little bit younger, and he was actually real....move over Katy! Seriously though, I really loved watching him grow throughout the book. To me he really started to man up and by the end of the book you can start to see the changes he's had to make to include Katy in his life.

I was a bit unsure about how the whole alien thing would play out but it works wonderfully in this love story. The concept is something completely new to me in the world of YA and if I'm honest it does make a refreshing change from all the usual vampire and werewolf books. I mean I still love those, but it's nice to have a wee change every now and then.

The plot to me didn't seem too fast paced or too slow, it was slap bang in the middle, which I really liked. I felt like I had enough time to get to know the characters and their surroundings before something major happened. So that when something did happen I kinda knew what was going on in their heads, I like having that feeling with characters. I might seem strange, but to me thats what makes them all the more real!

I really loved the ending of Obsidian, it did leave me wanting more but luckily I have Onyx on hand to dive into right away. Overall, Obsidian is a super sexy and heart stopping read! Definitely one of my top 5 reads this year!
He lives in Malta, a fairytale-like place filled with sunshine and sea, beauty and secrets. And Luca’s darkest of secrets is the best kept of them all.

Eva Talbot arrives in Malta for the summer to finish up her doctoral dissertation. When she meets Luca, a mysterious and handsome shipping tycoon, there is an instant attraction, a disturbing and beautiful energy that she has never felt before. But she senses the darkness that lives within him. Eva is hired to care for his mother, who suffers from dementia, but it is Luca who Eva will eventually risk everything to save. Her life becomes a swirling chaos of darkness and romance, of secrets and mystery. And the question that emerges will become the most important answer of all.

Can she save Luca from the darkness that plagues him without losing herself? The answer is a matter of life or death.

Courtney Cole is a novelist who would eat mythology for breakfast if she could. She has a degree in Business, but has since discovered that corporate America is not nearly as fun to live in as fictional worlds. Every Last Kiss is her debut novel and she followed it with the rest of The Bloodstone Saga (Every Last Kiss, Fated, With My Last Breath and My Tattered Bonds).Courtney lives in quiet suburbia, close to Lake Michigan, with her real-life Prince Charming, her ornery kids (there is a small chance that they get their orneriness from their mother) and a small domestic zoo.

Here is a teaser from the book!

“Evangeline,” he says softly, his dark eyes glued to mine. “I’m so sorry about the other night. I wish I could remember. I wish I could take it back.”

“I don’t,” I tell him honestly. “I really don’t.”

He gazes out the window for a scant moment more, seemingly deep in thought, before he crosses the room to me. He kneels in front of me and looks into my eyes. In this moment, he is as vulnerable as I’ve ever seen him, as I’ve ever seen anyone. He’s completely open to me, hiding nothing.

I want so desperately to kiss him.

“I can’t,” I tell his dark eyes, praying that I don’t fall into them. “I want to kiss you right now. But I can’t. You’re my patient. There are ethics…”

Luca shakes his head, his hands on my knees and his gaze upon mine. “You aren’t my doctor, Evangeline. You’re my friend. I’m simply talking to a friend who wants to help me tonight. You’re not licensed to practice medicine in Malta, remember? So where does that leave your ethics?”

He smiles wolfishly and waits without moving. He’s offering himself to me. I know that. And it is against his better judgment. He has told me that, as well. Yet here he is, on his knees in front of me.

I suck in a breath and inhale the air that is so charged with everything that Luca is.

Whatever that is.

It is dangerous on many levels. I know that.

I reach out unsure fingers and trace the top of his shoulders, moving over the contours. They are so broad, yet so slender at once. He’s perfectly built. Strong, lithe and powerful. I drop my head. I know that I don’t want to resist him anymore. For the first time in my life, I’m going to do something that my heart wants to do, not what my head tells me to do.

I grip him tighter with my fingers and pull him to me. He folds in between my knees, pressing me to his chest. I can hear his heart thumping rhythmically against mine as my fingers linger on his warm back.

He dips his head and presses his forehead to mine, staring into my eyes. His are a smoldering and stormy black.

“I’m afraid to get close to you,” he tells me. “I’m afraid for you.”

“I’m not,” I whisper. “I’m not afraid of you. Kiss me, Luca.”

Even I can hear the thick desire in my voice and Luca hears it too.

He groans and covers my mouth with his own, muffling the sound with my lips. He is pressed so close that he seems to absorb me. Every plane of his body is against every plane of mine. I don’t know where he stops and where I start, but it doesn’t matter. All that matters is him and me and this.

So what are you waiting for? Let's spill the beans on Sophie McKenzie!

Secret childhood crush
Okay, this is really embarrassing. When I was very little I had a bit of a crush on Scott Tracey, one of the puppets in Thunderbirds…

Secret favourite snack
I love chocolate covered peanuts, but I worry too much to keep them in the house - my son is allergic to nuts.

Secret comfort read
I come back to The Secret History by Donna Tartt again and again. This book shouldn’t be a comfort read – the plot revolves around two murders and a cover up - but I love re-reading it anyway!

Secret song choice
It’s overblown and sentimental but I have to confess that I really like I Can’t Fight This Feeling by REO Speedwagon. I’ve no idea why this song appeals to me so much. Normally, I don’t like power ballads at all…

Secret hair envy
When I was growing up I always wanted long, blonde hair – like, say, Charlize Theron (or when I was growing up, Farah Fawcett) rather than my own short, thick dark hair.

Secret ambition
To play the piano brilliantly. Unfortunately I’m hampered by a lack of skill, an absence of aptitude and pretty much zilch intention of practicing…

Secret embarrassing moment
Making myself sick eating an entire tub of brandy butter one Christmas.

Secret idol
The actor, Helen Mirren. I have heard her talk (eloquently) and watched her age (gracefully) and she always manages to be charming, dignified and kind whenever she speaks in public. And she’s a great actor too.

Secret about writing
I’m always saying I love writing stories and I do. But what I tend to tell people less often is that I HATE proof reading. That’s when you go through the typeset copy of your book, right at the end. It’s a time to focus on the niggly details – and the last time you read your story before you see it in print. I think I dislike doing it for both those reasons.

Secret movie choice
The Matrix. This movie has everything I look for in a great film. It’s a thriller with a love story at the heart, plus gorgeous leads, an intriguing premise, stunning visual story-telling and a racy plot. Its style looks very 1990s now - but I still love it.

Today I am talking about why Amber Kizer, author of the Fenestra series is a rockstar!

You can read my reviews of Ambers books as well:

Meridian, Wildcat Fireflies, Speed of Light.

Amber's books have been some of only a handful that have actually managed to transport me to another world. I mean really and truly, forget the world that is going on around me, staying up till 3am to finish them kind of books. Amber's characters are so life like and easy to relate to, her plots are intricate, detailed and full of the shock factor.

All these things are must haves for a brilliant book to me.

The Fenestra series was my first venture into the world of Angel books, and honestly since then nothing in the same genre has topped this series. To me Amber's books are some new and different, to be honest they stand out on their own, they really don't need me praising them any more.

Ok I'll shut up now, Amber has very kindly wrote a guest post so share with all my lovely readers, so here it is!

When Meridian and Tens set out at the end of MERIDIAN to find more Fenestra, the angel-humans who are windows for the dying, there was one place I needed them go…

…Indiana…

Why Indiana you ask? My roots go deep into Hoosier soil and there are lots of misconceptions about the Midwest that I tried to dispel. There is art and history, tradition and National respect, a hearty helping of patriotism, and forward thinkers…so much more than soybeans, corn, and cows. The initial spark of the idea for Fenestra, and Meridian in particular, developed over the course of my grandparents’ deaths. Several more heartbreaking deaths in that couple of years handed me a level of grief I needed to turn into something purposeful. I am our family’s story keeper. I love and hang old photographs, hold onto my grandmother’s elementary school report cards, and try to keep straight the pieces of that family tree. They are all Hoosiers and proud of their heritage—so it’s no small wonder that I feel a connection to the place and people.

When Meridian and Tens stopover in Carmel, Indiana, at the beginning of WILDCAT FIREFLIES they visit real places, meaningful places like Helios Tea Room, Wildcat Creek, and The Art and Design District. There is a Feast of the Fireflies that grew out of my childhood memories of an actual festival called Feast of the Hunter’s Moon at Ft. Ouiatenon (We-ought-te-non). These are all woven into the backdrop of a coalition fighting for good.

When we looked at continuing Meridian’s story, I wanted to connect these beloved characters to the joys, sorrows, and traditions of Memorial Day in Indy. In my family, Memorial Weekend is all about tradition and remembrance. Visiting the cemetery where generations of my family are buried to clean the graves and plant flowers tops on the list. We eat a picnic at the park my grandmother played in as a child, and visit the house where she was born. There is also usually a memorial service either at the Circle in downtown Indianapolis, or out at Crown Hill Cemetery. We also attend the Indianapolis 500 car race.

I grew up watching the race, which is really a month long focus that takes over the town—parades, pageants, services, and of course fast cars. I can name drivers and teams and winners or losers—we call can. Black and white checker flags appear on lampposts and in yards; all the clothing stores display black and white outfits for all ages. You don’t have to be a fan of cars or racing to enjoy the spectacle. There are incredible opportunities for people watching! Hundreds of thousands of people attend from all over the world—it’s the perfect backdrop for a battle between Fenestra and Aternocti. SPEED OF LIGHT is the third book in Meridian and Tens’ love story and for the moment will wrap up Fenestra books. There are so many seeds from MERIDIAN and WILDCAT FIREFLIES that I was able to develop and delve into that I hope readers feel this is the ultimate payoff. So much of my joy for Indy and my love for these characters went into these pages! Readers can expect to understand Juliet’s history, much more about Fenestra and Nocti, and Tens’ past and family history. They’ll also see a deepening of the love and commitment between Meridian and Tens. For a pictorial sneak peek of behind the scenes of this upcoming book, visit AmberKizer.com and click on SPEED OF LIGHT.

First of all I want to say a massive thank you to Rebecca for sending me a copy of this book to review. It seems to be the book that has lifted me out of my summer reading slump, yay!

Last Summer is by no means a typical YA romance. It is fresh, edgy, raw and I loved it!

Chloe is spending summer with her parents at their summer house, she knows this will probably be the last summer they spend together as a family and she is determined to make the most of it and enjoy herself.

Although things don't really go to plan, her father ends up walking out on the family and her mother starts to camp out in front of the tv, almost oblivious to the world around her.

When Chloe meets Logan, a homeless boy living in an old, abandoned cottage, she makes it her summer mission to help him, even if he doesn't want any help, she doesn't expect to fall for him along the way and get mixed up in his crazy world.

I really loved this book, it is a quick read. It only took me a couple of hours to finish, but the detail and description that is packed in there is awesome!

This is a more mature YA book, with drug use, sex scenes and a near-rape scene. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone under the age of 16/17.

The book does touch on some hard subjects, but Rebecca writes about them to get the issues out in the open and talked about, which is something I really like about this book.

The book switches between Chloe and Logan's points of view, which I really liked. Especially at the beginning before they really get to know each other. I felt like I got to know them both as individuals as well as a couple.

I loved Chloe and Logan's relationship, especially all the ups and downs. They are really so sweet together and I think they complement each other well, and bring out the better qualities in each other.

I really was hooked on this book from page one, there is something about the characters and all the raw emotion thats built up in the book that just gets under your skin.

Overall I really enjoyed this and am looking forward to reading more of Rebecca's books in the future!

Today as part of the blog tour I am sharing an excerpt with you all, enjoy!

Drew let me be until snowflakes began to drift down from the sky. “Come on, Chloe. We have to go now.”

With tears still staining my cheeks, I gave my mother‟s grave one last caress and then stood. “All right, I‟m ready.”

Drew took my hand again and led me between the plots as best as we could manage. The air outside had chilled even more than when we arrived. It was cold. Really cold. When we approached the gates, warmth suddenly filled my stomach and spread through my body.

“Oh, my… what the heck?” I clutched my stomach as the tingling spread all the way into my fingertips.

“Are you okay?” Drew asked. “What‟s wrong?”

“I don‟t know.” I shook my head. Tears threatened to surface again. “I don‟t know.”

“It‟s your senses, Chloe, telling you something is off.”

Drew and I both spun around and Drew whipped his gun out from underneath his jacket.

“Who are you?” Drew yelled.

There, sitting atop one of the gravestones, bathed in the green glow of florescent lights, was a woman. Even though it was freezing, she barely wore anything, and what she did have on looked like leather wrapped around her body and a halter top with crude lacing holding it together. Snowflakes drifted down and passed through her tanned skin, dissolving into nowhere.

“How do you know me?” I shouted. “Who are you?”

My stomach was still flooded with warmth, and it made me feel like I had to pee. I wished I had brought my gun.

She clicked her tongue and tossed a wave of dark brown hair over her shoulder. “You do not need your weapons, my children. I do not come to harm.”

She slid off the gravestone, and I watched her bare feet sink into the snow. They left no footprints.

“Who are you?” Drew demanded again.

She moved forward slowly. “I am your mother, many times over.”

This chick scared me. Was she a ghost? I moved backward a few steps as she approached, using Drew as a shield, since he had the gun.

She smiled, her dark eyes intently focusing on Drew. “Andrew, lower your weapon. You cannot harm me.”

As if under a spell, Drew lowered his arms and his gun came to rest by his side. “What do you want?”

“I am here to help, Chloe.” She nodded at me and smiled. “You need the help of your ancestors. Your mother cannot help you, so I have come to give you guidance.”

The warmth in my stomach turned into fire in my heart. I can‟t explain it, but I felt the connection with this apparition. I moved out from behind Drew.

“Who are you?” I whispered.

She lifted her chin arrogantly. “I am Sostrate, the daughter of Artemis, and as I have told you already, your mother, many times over.”

“Why are you here?”

“I have come to give you the guidance your mother cannot give you. It is my duty.”

“Are you a ghost?”

She only shook her head and gave me a crooked grin. “I am a demi-goddess. I gained immortality from my mother. I do not come as an apparition, because I cannot die.”

“Holy shit.” Drew actually dropped his gun in the snow.

I moved forward, not afraid anymore. I knew she was who she said she was. As we approached each other, I stretched out my hand, wanting to touch her. She also extended her hand and as my gloved fingers connected with the solid fingertips of hers, I gasped. “You‟re real.”

She nodded. “Of course.”

“Sostrate,” I pulled my hand from hers, “How can you help me?”

“Chloe, it is time that you think with a clear head. Revenge has taken over your heart and your soul, taken over so much of you that you cannot possibly win this battle. It takes more than thinking with your brain. You must fight with love,” she pressed her fist against her heart “not only hatred.”

“I don‟t understand,” I told her.

“Wars are not won because of hatred for the enemy; they are won because of love for what is being defended.”
