Review: Isolation (Witches of Santa Anna #10) - Lauren Barnholdt

4/5

First of all I want to say a massive thank you to Lauren Barnholdt who gave me a copy of Isolation to review! By now I am well and truly addicted to The Witches of Santa Anna series and it was so nice of Lauren to offer me a copy!

So this is the 10th book in the entire series and the 3rd book in the second series of the books. Like the previous books it is only available as an e-book and is currently priced at £2.12 on Amazon UK and $3.44 on Amazon US.

Also like the previous books in the series it is quite short, and only takes about 30 minutes to read. At first I didn't really like how short the books where, but life has been really hectic for me the past week and reading Isolation fitted in nicely to one evening. So I have started to see a positive side to the short releases! I'm still not 100% percent sure about the length, but it is growing one me!

So once again we are thrust into Cam and Nat's world although this time things have taken a turn for the worst! Cam and Nat are in a bit of a funk and are keeping things from each other..important things!
Isolation follows our favourite characters and their reactions as some crucial information is leaked to the reader and just when I thought I knew what was going to happen next...I was hit with a bit of a twist!
Everyone knows I enjoy a good twist, so I'm not going to spoil it for anyone reading this review! Just try it for yourself and you'll see what I'm taking about!

My favourite part of this book has to be the dinner with Nat, her mum, Cam and his mum. The series so far has been pretty serious and heavy-going. This dinner scene was nice, light hearted and a complete comedy moment!

Once again I am left in complete disbelief of how the book ends, I need to find out what is going to happen next and I need to know now! Lauren Barnholdt has a brilliant way of leaving readers gripping the edge of their seats in anticipation for the next scene and it doesn't come!
I'll have to wait for book 11 to be released to find out more!

Overall an amazing read with some new information and starling scenes, needless to say I am anxiously awaiting the release of book 11!

Review: I Wish... - Wren Emerson

5/5

I bought this book for my Kindle after a recommendation from a friend, it is currently 69p on Amazon UK and $1.12 on Amazon US for Kindle.
This book is worth way more than that, so all I can say is grab it now before the price changes!!

At first when I saw the book was about witches, and was the first in a series I thought to myself "Here we go with another YA witch series for Kindle that I'm going to get sucked into and spend lots of money on" (I'm sure a few of you will know which series I'm referring to here!!

Anyways, I was completely wrong!

Yes it is a YA witch book, yes it is the first in a series, but it takes more than 30 minutes to read, yay!

I fell in love with this book as soon as I seen the cover! I love the bright colours used in it and the picture of the girl lying in the grass.
It sets the reader up with quite a high expectation, and it does not disappoint!

The story follows Thistle, who has spent her whole life travelling the country in a pink RV with her mother and grandmother. She has learned to do as she's told, be where she's supposed to and not ask too many questions. Although Thistle is full of questions, like who is my dad? Where did we come from? Is there a better life for me?

All of these questions are answered when unexpectedly the family head home to a small town called Desire to care for Thistle's dying great grandmother. Thistle never even knew where she was born, and all of a sudden she has cousins and an aunt and uncle! The twist in the story is that Desire is a town full of witches, and Thistle was taken away as a baby as to protect her as she is the most powerful witch to come along in quite a while.

Thistle tries to lead a normal life and go to high school in a town full of back-stabbing witches who want to take Thistle's position of power.

I really enjoyed this book, and cannot wait to read the second instalment in the series! The book left me dying to find out more of the story and what is going to happen with Thistle now.

Review: Wintergirls - Laurie Halse Anderson

4/5

Wintergirls follows 18 year old Lia who is in her final year of high school, living with her dad and his new family and battling anorexia.

When Lia is told that a girl she used be very close with Cassie has died er world turns upside down. Lia believes Cassie is haunting her, everywhere she turns Cassie is there reminding her that she isn't perfect yet.

The rest of the book follows Lia slowly start to destroy herself as she keeps trace of everything she eats and what she weighs.

I did really did enjoy this books, having read quite a few adult books about the subject of eating disorders I didn't expect much from a YA book, but the book is well researched and not too in depth and graphic, which is ideal for younger readers.

I didn't like the formatting of the book, all the crossing out of text in the middle of sentences. For me it got a bit too confusing at times, but it didn't put me off the overall book.

Review: The Forest of the Hands and Teeth - Carrie Ryan

4/5

I started this book not really knowing much about it except it was a YA dystopian novel. Of course with my current love affair with dystopian novels I had to read it!

The story follows Mary who lives in a secluded village surrounded by the forest. The villagers know off nothing outside their village, to them their entire world is this small village. No one dares to leave the fences protecting their village because the forest is full of the unconsecrated (zombies to you and me!).

Then of course we have the Sisterhood, a religious order who keep tabs on the villagers, nurse the sick and also play as the local government for the village. Mary is sent to join the Sisterhood and uncovers secrets that don't really seem to make any sense.

As the story unfolds the reader becomes aware that there is something much bigger going on and the real truth of the scale of the village's zombie problem has been hidden from them for generations. Although this book ends by leaving the reader with even more questions and does not tie up all the loose ends.

To me, The Forest of the Hands and Teeth is a perfect mixture of Lois Lowy's The Giver and I am Legend, it has some great twists in the book and I enjoyed it and am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

Accidental Abduction Giveaway Blitz Tour

I am super excited to be kicking off a special 5 day Giveaway Blitz Blog Tour!
The tour is hosted by The Bookish Snob, and there will 5 days full of giveaways!
You can check the rest of the schedule here

I will be giving away an e-copy of Accidental Abduction by Eve Langlais as part of this tour.

So What's the book about?

Abducted by a space pirate, she fights the temptation to let him plunder her goods.

A boyfriend’s attempted murder leaves Megan floundering in the ocean. Sinking without hope, the bright light she sees in the night sky isn’t her doorway to heaven, but rather the beginning of her accidental abduction by a space pirate. While thankful of his rescue, Megan stays true to form and just can’t keep her mouth shut, even when he keeps threatening to kill her--or auction her off to the highest bidder. Even odder, despite her decision to not get involved with her wickedly hot captor, she can’t help craving his touch.

Tren retired from his job as a mercenary so he could enjoy life, but he never counted on the boredom of normalcy. The acquisition of rare items has somewhat filled the void, but his accidental abduction of an outspoken earthling, who doesn’t know when to shut up, turns his life upside. Her fiery spirit draws him while at the same time drives him insane. Struggling with his urges, he must decide-- throttle her barbarian neck or ravish her delectably lush body?

Despite what his heart tries to tell him, he’s determined to sell her to the highest bidder even as he seduces her body. However, despite his best intentions, he discovers he can’t let her go. And when a foe from his past thinks to steal her, he’ll do anything to get her back

Want to Know a bit more about the author Eve Langlais?

So you want to know a little about me? Well, I'm in my mid thirties, married 11 years to a wonderful supportive man--yes, he's a hunk-- who gave me three beautiful--noisy-- children aged ten, seven and four. I work as a webmistress/customer service rep from home and in my spare time--of which there is tragically too little-- I write, read or Wii.

I was born in British Columbia, but being a military brat lived a little bit everywhere--Quebec, New Brunswick, Labrador, Virginia (USA) and finally Ontario. My family and I currently reside in the historic town of Bowmanville, about an hour or so out of Toronto.

Wow was that ever boring!!! Now for the fun stuff.

I'm writing fantasy the way I like it--hot with a touch of magic. I enjoy reading and writing stories that push the envelope of what we consider normal, and I love to cross the line into fantasy. I tend to have alot of sexual tension in my tales as I think all torrid love affairs start with a tingle in our tummies. My heroes are very male, you could even say border line chest thumping at times. So if you want a truly sensitive man, I am not for you. But that said, my men will do almost anything for the one they love. Even babysit.

I'd love to tell you more, but judging from the sounds in the living room the children are at it again, which means I'll need a mop and loads of patience. What I really need is a robot maid like Jane Jetson! Thanks for checking me out and hope to see you again soon.

So what do you have to do to win an e-copy of Accidental Abduction?

Contest is open internationally.
Must be over 13 to enter.
Winner will be chosen by random.org.
Contest will run for 1 week, 27th of May till the 3rd of June.
Winner will be announced on this blog on the 4th of June.
All you have to do is leave a comment on this post with an email address that I can contact you at if you win.

Simple, right?

Review: Princess - Courtney Cole

5/5

I don't really know what to say except I loved this book!!
It is a bit different from my usual paranormal reads, so when I started it I wasn't too sure about what I would think about it, turns out I couldn't get enough of it!

The story centres around 17 year old Sydney who has grown up with everything she could ever wish for, as a daughter of a senator and living in the perfect house, as a perfect little rich family.
But her perfect little bubble bursts when she finds out she is pregnant, her parents are forcing to get an abortion she doesn't agree with. So she is kicked out to fend for herself and ends up living with her distant cousin and working as a waitress.

Things seem to be going fine and there is some light at the end of the tunnel for Sydney, that is until someone tries to mow her down with a car! The race is on to discover who wants Sydney dead before they can try it again.

I cannot praise this book enough, there are so many twists and turns in the storyline. Just when I thought I knew where the book was going, BAM another twist!
I literally could not put this book down, I sat up till 2am just to finish it because I had know how it ended!

The characters in the books are well developed and at times I found myself cheering Sydney on and willing her to get out of all these predicaments she was in.

It is a crossover book, with a bit of both YA and adult context in it, I would say it is aimed at older teens as there is a few raunchy scenes and a bit of swearing in it, so I definitely wouldn't recommend this to a 13 year old.

Overall a brilliant read which will leave you gripping the edge of your seat until you find out the ending!

Review: Succubus Shadows (Georgina Kincaid #5) - Richelle Mead

5/5

After finishing the 4th book in this series, Succubus Heat I was a little disappointed so I really had no idea what to expect from this one.

Once again I was thrown into the world of Georgina Kincaid and all the dilemmas and drama happening in her life!
Something is still after Georgina, and she can't figure out what it is until it's too late!

We see a lot of Georgina's past in this book as she is forced to re-live it through dreams. I really enjoyed seeing her different past lives. Even though I have now read 5 books about her, I feel like seeing these past lives unfold through her dreams made me learn even more about Georgina that I didn't already know!

Of course Georgina's love live is still one big mess! I did really enjoy the awkward interactions between Seth and Georgina at the beginning on the book. Not only that bot now Roman is starting to make advances on her as well! She isn't even sure if she is over Seth yet, or if she ever will be.

I loved the ending of this book so much, the drama really takes it up a notch towards the end and A LOT of new juicy information is released! Our mystery man from Georgina's dream is finally revealed to her, but can he be sure that she's being told the truth?
It left me desperate for the next book, which isn't even going to be out till August! How will I cope till then?!

Review: Suspicion (Witches of Santa Anna #9) - Lauren Barnholdt

4/5

So this is the 9th book in the Witches of Santa Anna series.
The book picks up right where Denial left us, unsure about the new transfer girl Hadley.
When Cam goes by her house to "check things out" he encounters a very strange scene, which becomes even stranger when he notices Hadley through the window
wearing silver butterfly necklace!

Things are really hotting up in this book, and there is a lot of new information to take in.
Brody knows a lot more than he is letting on, and when he gives Nat this strange ipad looking contraption things get even more confusing. Not only that but it's now time to introduce Nat and Cam's mothers to each other.
With the stress of that over their heads, and the new girl, and wondering if Raine will be back any time soon is it any wonder that Nat and Cam are fighting?

I loved this book, I think it may in fact be my favourite out of the entire series so far!
Like all the rest, it is extremely short. At this point though, that doesn't bother me any more.
I will say however that I cannot believe it ended like that! I am desperate to read the next instalment now, anyone have a release date for the UK yet, lol!

Review: Denial (The Witches of Santa Anna #8) - Lauren Barnholdt

4/5

This is the eighth book in the Witches of Santa Anna series, and Denial kicks of the start of the second season of the books.

First of all the second season?
Even I am starting to get a bit confused with all the book names by now. I'm assuming that by calling this the first book in the second season there is going to be at least another 6 books after this one?
I swear at this point Lauren Barnholdt must be raking in the cash!
Well good for her because even after all the previous times I've said I'm going to stop reading this series, her I am hooked once again and buying books 8 and 9 as soon as they are released on Amazon UK for Kindle.

So Denial picks up after the all the drama that we left behind at the school dance in book 7.
After spending the entire weekend at Cam's house Nat finally has to face to reality, thats right it's time for school!
Secretly she hopes she will never have to see Raine again, and Nat gets her wish when she still has not surfaced on Monday morning, maybe she's gone forever?

But there is a new addition to Santa Anna High School, Hadley a new transfer student from England. She seems nice enough and soon manages to get invited out on a double date with Cam, Nat and Aiden. Although as always with this book series, you can never take someone at face value and when a secret attacker who goes after Nat knows Hadley's name....thats right the book ends!

Although like all this others this was a really quick read, I really enjoyed it. After having quite a long break in between books 7 and 8 I thought I would have forgotten half the characters and what was happening, but after a few pages I was hooked right back into the story once again!
Needless to say I am off to read book 9, Suspicion to see what happens next!

From Goodreads:

It's a small college town filled with quirky characters. But when the sun goes down, the bad comes out. Because in Morganville, there is an evil that lurks in the darkest shadows - one that will spill out into the bright light of day.
Claire Danvers has had enough of her nightmarish dorm situation. The popular girls never let her forget just where she ranks on the school's social scene: somewhere less than zero. And Claire really doesn't have the right connections - to the undead who run the town.
When Claire heads off campus, the imposing old house where she finds a room may not be much better.
Hew new roommates don't show many signs of life. But they'll have Claire's back when the town's deepest secrets come crawling out, hungry for fresh blood...

I have the first 9 books in this series sitting on my bookcase but just haven't got around to reading the series yet.
I am planning to start this series in June, so not to long to wait to finally read it now!!

Review: Divergent ( Divergent #1) - Veronica Roth

5/5

I really don't know where to start with this review!
I absolutely loved this book and read it in one sitting because I couldn't bear to put it down!

The book follows Beatrice as she hits 16 and must make the choice every 16 year old in her society does, where she wants to spent the rest of her adult life. Before she makes that decision Beatrice and the other 16 year olds are given tests to help them decide which society they belong in, but something is wrong with Beatrice's test and from there everything starts to go wrong for her.

This is a brilliant story full of politics, prejudice and some crazy technology. And at the heart of it all is our 16 year old heroine battling with her own problems and falling in love with her instructor.

I cannot recommend this book enough, yes a lot of people may be thinking it's just another YA dystopian novel. Well yes it is, but it is a brilliant YA dystopian novel!

Review: Fallen (Fallen #1) - Lauren Kate

4/5

I was really excited to read Fallen, as there was a lot of hype about the book and had been told so many good things about it.

To me, it didn't live up to the hype. It is a good book, and I enjoyed the story but feel a little disappointed after finishing it. I did give it 4 out of 5 stars however because as disappointed as I was, I did enjoy the story and got wrapped up in the characters.

The book follows Luce who has just recently been sent to reform school, as she tries to fit in and catch up with classes she also meets two very different boys, Cam and Daniel.

They both seem to have an interest is Luce, so on top of trying to make friends and keep her head down at a new school, she also has to play her part in a very strange love triangle.

But with any paranormal romance book, nothing is as it seems and soon Luce starts seeing these strange shadows which she has seen all life and thought they were finally gone! And of course there is the strange graveyard opposite the school, when Luce starts to look more deeply into Daniel's life instead of working on her own family tree, things don't seem to add up.

I am looking forward to starting Torment, the second book in this series. Although I am not too anxious to start it right away, although Fallen was a good read it did not leave me desperate to find out what happens next as some other book series' do.

Waiting on Wednesday #4

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking The Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating!

So what am I looking forward to being released soon?...

From Goodreads:
In search of a future that may not exist and faced with the decision of who to share it with, Cassia journeys to the Outer Provinces in pursuit of Ky — taken by the Society to his certain death — only to find that he has escaped, leaving a series of clues in his wake.

Cassia’s quest leads her to question much of what she holds dear, even as she finds glimmers of a different life across the border. But as Cassia nears resolve and certainty about her future with Ky, an invitation for rebellion, an unexpected betrayal, and a surprise visit from Xander — who may hold the key to the uprising and, still, to Cassia’s heart — change the game once again. Nothing is as expected on the edge of Society, where crosses and double crosses make the path more twisted than ever

Crossed is the sequel to Matched, and is due to be released on November 11th 2011. I cannot wait to get my hands in this book as I really enjoyed Matched!

Review: Storm Born Comic - Richelle Mead

The Storm Born comic is due to be released on Wed 18th May.
There will be 4 issues, then a graphic novel including all 4 issues will be released in September.
This Graphic Novel will cover the first half of the original book,
there will then be another 4 comic issues and a second graphic novel.

5/5

First of all a massive thank you to Sea Lion Books who contacted me asking if I would like to review this comic!

I had previously heard about the comics and was a bit upset that most likely they would only be sold in the US, making it harder for me to get a hold off. I love Richelle Mead's writing, and have previously read the first three books in the Dark Swan series, so I was super excited to get a chance to read this comic!

First of all the artwork in this comic is amazing, it's as if all the small details from the books have come to life. As a fan of the book series it is important to me that all these small details are correct and that the comic sticks as close as possible to the original novel, which it has! I especially loved seeing Eugenie's tattoos and the intricate details of her wand, but mostly loved getting to see Kiyo, he is exactly as I had imagined him to be!

I loved how this part of the original book has been condensed down into comic form without leaving out any of the important parts in the story. If the reader had not read the Storm Born novel and picked up the comic, they would still know exactly what is going on!
Even though I know the story and know what is going to happen next, the comic ending has left me dying for more! I cannot wait to read the next instalment of the comic series!
